Tuesday Roundup/Caps 5, Isles 2

[Boxscore - Recap - Postgame Coverage]

Milestones everywhere in last night's big 5-2 win over the Isles at the Can-You-Hear-Me-Now?-Good Center, including:
  • Olie Kolzig got win number 250 in his great career - by the same 5-2 score and over the same team against whom he got his first win in January of 1995.
  • Jeff Friesen got his 500th career point on his third period helper.
  • Alexander Ovechkin scored his 40th (and subsequently his 41st) goal of the year. AO has now scored at least one goal against 22 of 24 teams he's played this year (San Jose and Los Angeles are the only teams to keep him from lighting the lamp, San Jose the only team to keep him off the scoresheet entirely this season).
As for the game itself, once Messrs. Leggo and McGeough decided to let the teams play (the first period saw 11 minor penalties called, but no goals), the game had pretty good flow. Ovechkin's second goal of the game - with 0.5 seconds left in the second period - seemed to take most of the wind out of the Isles' sails, though the visitors certainly threatened in the third and the game was still somewhat in doubt until Bryan Muir turned into Al MacInnis and potted two insurance goals on bombs from the blueline.

Good call, though I've yet to see anything he can't do.
