Sunday Roundup/Caps 2, Panthers 1

[AP Recap - Game Summary - Super Stats]

Prior commitments and a wonky TiVo prevented me from taking in last night's game - which, by all accounts, was a dominating performance that still resulted in a too-close-for-comfort final few minutes - so feel free to discuss your observations in the comments.

And on an unrelated note - KB and I would like to take a second to thank Elliotte Friedman and his Hockey Night In Canada crew for putting together a great piece on hockey bloggers and media access, and to thank Nate Ewell and the organization for creating the environment in which something like this can happen. But we'd also like to give a quick shout out to Eric McErlain, who the CBC somehow overlooked, for helping to blaze the trail and blur the line between old and new media. Cheers.

By the way, that handsome bearded man taking a pic in the locker room (the picture in this post, in fact) is KB. And ladies... he's available (but sadly no longer bearded).

Too close for comfort, no doubt. This team has got to figure out how to score more than two goals against a team like Florida. They've made Vokoun look like Lundqvist this year.

Encouraging effort. I thought they kept their legs moving and were out hustling the Cats most of the night. Considering the schedule they've had to endure that's no small task.

I am hoping the week long rest will give them time to learn the coaches' system. I would like to see them improve their transition game by getting some cross ice passes in front of the net instead of chipping it along the boards. I know the cycle game is important, but seems like it would be harder to score when your back is to the net constantly.

I drove down to South Florida to attend the game and it was a real nail-biter, but the team looked better than I've seen in a while! Here's hoping the time off this week will strengthen them more on the new system and they'll come out swinging! As always Ov was a mad man on the ice but I prefer he STAY OUT OF THE BOX!! ...and Much Thanks to The Donald for the post game fun! It was a real treat!
