Sunday Roundup/Caps 2, 'Canes 0

[AP Recap - Boxscore - Super Stats - WashingtonCaps.com Postgame]

I'll leave the recap of last night's game to the pros (Tarik and Corey), but would point out that through two games, the penalty kill is now 8-for-8, the Caps have outshot opponents 73-52 and won 51% of their faceoffs. The team goals against average is 0.50 and the save percentage is .981. And here's your individual stat line of the night:
Alex Ovechkin: Game-winning goal, +1, 6 shots on goal, 4 hits, 3 takeaways, 0 giveaways, 3 blocked shots
All in all, a very encouraging opening weekend that can only be an indication of even better things to come.

I disagreed with Kolzig getting the first star. Of course it's practically a given when you record a shutout, but honestly, he only saw 23 shots, and none of them required him to stand on his head.

Ovechkin was dominant, and I pointed that out in my post. I gave him the first star instead.

Your boys looked very very good two nights in a row.

I don't disagree with you, though Olie did have to make a big save or two (the mini-breakaway and the third period save where he kicked out his right leg to cover the far side of the goal come to mind).

I thought Grahame kept the game interesting - he was awesome.

Random thoughts so far:
-- Kozlov is a giant! And (even better) he appears to be having some fun with Ovie. Loved the blind drop. An indication of considerable "chemistry" between the two. (What is Flash's job on that line anyway? Placeholder?)
-- Nylander is a joy to watch. The hands of a master craftsman! That so-called second line may become a true terror. Talk about "puck control"! Holy cow! Let him give a clinic.
-- Semin looked fine.
-- Nicky B. looked nervous. But he does get from A to B very quickly. Good so far.
-- The 3rd line of Petty, Gordo, and Clarkie is also very effective. With practice they will be able to keep the puck down in the attack zone until the cows come home. And if Flash fails to shine, Clark can slide in there with Koz and Ovie.

I am very, very optimistic. Everyone stay healthy, please boys!
