1) Can be taken several ways depending if you're an optimist or pessimist. 2) An optimist sees this as a positive as it give stability to an important position 3) A pessimist sees this as a move that confirms that the Caps goaltending prospects will need at least 2-3 more years to be ready
"It's a good move for a good guy and gives us bloggers another two years worth of "BJ" and "Johnson" jokes."
1) To go along with the plethora of Semin double entendres. LOL 2) Ironically the top goalie prospect, Semen, has the same name issue as Alex. Seriously, if he were to develop it would likely take another 3-4 years before he were ready in D.C. 3) With Kolzig probably on his last contract, that would mean someone would/will have to fill that gap as # 1 tender. Unfortunately, just as the rest of the team would (hopefully) probably be ready to be Cup contenders
Ed Belfour is still a very respectable goaltender at 41 (42 before the season ends), and he doesn't exactly have a reputation for being the hardest-training guy in the League. Hasek's having a great year and will be 42 in a couple of weeks.
Olie is five years younger than both of them and is one of the best-conditioned athletes in the sport. I don't think that Olie's current contract (which runs out at the end of next season) will be his last.

Anyone who thought Semen Varlamov - currently 18 years old and in Russia - would be an NHLer within the next two years is crazy.
