Friday Open Thread

Because Happy Hour happens, you're getting an open thread today.

Did Mike Green get his phone call(s) last night? Did Brooks Laich? Does Jose Theodore's decision to test the free agency waters impact Cristobal Huet? Is it good to know that the Caps aren't the only team that Don Meehan is playing around with (here's a mostly full list of his clients)? And what if Alex Ovechkin had this incentive plan in his contract?

So many questions, so few hours until the weekend. I'll leave you with this, in the event that you're undecided as we head towards November:

Forget Article II of the Constitution - the right to elect Brooks Laich is the 28th Amendment.

H/t With Leather on the incentives link and to Dunzy on the vid.

Well he'd score about a million goals. I think that much is obvious.

I think this would be the most destructively dominant idea in the history of professional sports. I think the rink would explode due to his zest to score.

Goals, I mean.

What happened to the Laich for President video?

Info please, gents! I read with interest Mirtle's piece about Points=Per-Minute, which is here.
Can anyone tell me what his factor called "Qual Comp" is? I can't find an explanation.

Thank you!

@ breed: It wasn't working properly, so I yanked it. I'll fix it and get it back in there.

@ stella: Qual Comp is Quality of Competition (duh) and is defined in detail here (note, however, that those are last year's stats): "One of the weaknesses of the plus/minus statistic in the NHL is that it is highly-dependent on who a player plays against. A forward assigned to check Jaromir Jagr will have a harder time keeping the other team off the scoreboard than a player who lines up against the other team's fourth line. We can address this problem by calculating the average Behindthenet rating of the opposing players who are on the ice."

Wait--they used Jagr as the example?

So...many...jokes...

1) Does the Theodore situation influence Huet? Not really. If both are available come July 1st they will have plenty of suitors to allow both to get their asking price.
2) Jose will probably have to take a pay cut either way. Can't imagine any team paying him 6+ million anymore. Huet, on the other hand, as we have mentioned many times, will/can command more than he might if the market weren't so thin with UFA goalies.(Ray Emery may actually be the 2nd best available UFA!)

Ray Emery - 2nd best available talentwise, but I don't see how any GM would want them on their team. However, If Don Waddell needed a goalie...

Don't get your knickers in a twist. It's going to be OK. George will get our guys signed. If we don't get Huet, I'll be disapointed, but not worried too much. We can always make a trade for a decent netminder.
