Saturday Open Thread

Caps win 3-0 in Florida. From the stands, Wade Brookbank gives Donald Brashear the hairy eyeball.

I will be taping "Huet" over my "Kolzig" jersey for Tuesday's game. He was a wall on skates tonight!

Kozlov seems to be playing better with every game down the stretch. Have to love that.

Hey Islanders...You SUCK!!! You blow a 2 goal lead, then can't score with 4 minutes in OT and fail to get one goal in the SO. At least TB won and now we really have something to look forward to on Tuesday. I can't wait. The atmosphere will be electric!

Meant to say that was 4 minutes on the PP in OT.

Vive Huet!

NYI suck, I mean, 4 minute pps in OT???? Grr. TB, you have proved that you will still work your hardest to knock teams out of the playoffs. I commend you for that tonight, but please go back to sucking when we play you. Awesome game to watch, finally a game where by the end my heart was in a normal-ish heart beat range. Sheesh, cardic caps. GOOD WIN, obviously the stars are against us but KEEP WINNING!!!!!!!!

You know, with the crap showing by Ottawa and the way they've played of late, I think the Caps' slim chances to get in may rest with the Sens.
You've got to love Halpy getting the GWG which happens to help the Caps....

starting to think the Southeast slot is the only way we can make it in.

If we win the Tuesday Carolina game, we are dead even, points wise, with them. Then it becomes best record over the next two games, with the tie going to Carolina. We need Tampa to play spoiler AGAIN, basically.

shite.

p.s. Fedorov has been such a great addition. Actually, every trade dealine pickup has been stellar, IMO.

Kolzig must be pissed.

The puck movement on the PP is horrible. Both Green and Backstrom hold the puck far too long. Let's hope this won't be the Caps' undoing.

Vive Huet, indeed!
Je suis d'accord!! Totally.

Bravo Kozzie, too! Or -->
Козлов является героем. Он велик.

This stretch run is taking a lot outta me, the hoping and waiting and watching game. (You shoulda heard the wail that left my lips when I saw that Boston/Ottawa result. ARGGGGGHHH. Jez.)

I wonder: what is the effect of our relentless footsteps on the minds of Canes? They will be in major desperation hang-on-by-your-fingernails mode this week.

Here's desperately hoping that they are also afraid.

from the N-O: "The Canes went into the evening with a chance to clinch the Southeast Division title. Instead, they now face what may be a winner-take-all showdown with the Capitals in Washington on Tuesday."

Could they have really clinched with a win last night? Is Tuesday really winner-take-all for the division?

My head hurts. Ow.

I'm with everyone as far as finally I could watch the 3rd period without going into cardiac arrest....

I used to think that getting the 8th spot was our best chance of getting in, now I think winning the Division is our best chance.

Unfortunately, we lose all of the tiebreakers to Carolina, Boston, & Philly......

In order to win the division, we MUST beat Carolina in regulation on Tuesday and then out point them over the last 2 games......if we end up in a tie with them, we lose the tiebreaker.......

The Islanders really stunk it up for us last night.......We are a better team than Philly but the last 2 nights they have pulled out come from behind victories late in the game........

Go Buffalo today against Boston...

GO CAPS!!!!

All I have to say is that this is crazy. At least it's exciting! Better than talking about the probability that we get the #1 pick.

@sovacapsfan
Do the Caps really lose all the tie breakers? I was under the impression that they would lose to Carolina unless they get more points but win against Boston and Philly?

Anyone see that Buffalo-Boston game? Buffalo had some good chances to win it in regulation but ended up winning in OT. Now Boston & Philly are all tied at 91 points with 3 games left. NYR have 91 and 4 games (4 tough games) and Ottawa has 92 and 3 tough games. CRAZY

I'm pretty sure we lose the tiebreakers to Carolina, Boston, & Philly....

If we finish tied with the same numbers of points as another team, the first tiebreaker is the total number of games won. That's a pretty easy one to figure out...

The second tiebreaker is the total number of points gained in the head-to-head match ups in the regular season between the teams tied. If we beat Carolina on Tuesday night, we will have split the season series with Carolina, Boston, & Philly. HOWEVER, we had overtimes wins against all 3 of these teams, so all 3 of these teams got an extra point, and therefore all 3 of these teams earned more points against us in the regular season than we earned against them.....

It stinks...

Oh well, let's just win out our games and have Carolina lose 2 out of 3, and then we will win the Division and be the 3rd seed!!

Who knows, maybe the Rangers will falter and we could squeak by them....

JUST WIN CAPS, JUST WIN!!!!

Well, if we win out, our chances are pretty good, unless everyone else does. But I know at least boston and ottawa end up playing each other, so they can't both win out. best (worst) they can do is go into OT...

We'll just have to see. Caps MUST win out, though, or it's pretty much over, I think. :(

But if there's ever been a caps team that can do it, it's this one.

We have the tiebreakers over pretty much every team BUT Carolina, due to wins. Note that we're tied or 1 or 2 behind most teams in wins, with less points. To catch them, you need to win, not OTL, so that tiebreaker is essentially ours.
