Kolzig: En Fuego

Not that you need NHL.com to tell you this, but Olie Kolzig is hot (my wife would agree, but mostly with regards to an alternate definition of the word).

Through two games, Olie is 2-0-0 with a 0.50 goals against average and .981 save percentage, and has certainly earned the following accolades:
At age 37, Kolzig looks as good as ever, and with an improved Washington team in front of him, he could be in position for a late-career surge. Like [Nasvhille's Chris] Mason, Kolzig allowed just one goal in his team’s first two games, both victories.

Late-career surge? He's been pretty consistent throughout, with the (entirely understandable) possible exception of the year after his son was diagnosed with autism. Without Olie last year the Caps would have been Columbus' AHL team.

I'd interpret his caliente stats as a reflection of (1) his skill and (2) his team actually playing in the opposing team's zone. Amazing what a little improvement in puck possession and reduction in puck dumping will get you, huh?
