A Tradition Unlike Any Other...

"After choosing Alzner, the Caps handed him their new uniform to wear on the stage. Guess what, folks? After eight million jersey design changes, the Caps have gone back to something that looks remarkably like their jersey from their inaugural season in 1974-75. Isn't it nice to cheer for an Original Six team like the Rangers that actually has a tradition and doesn't have to pretend to invent one?" - Stan "The Maven" Fischler MSG's Ricky Vaughn

Yeah, Stan Ricky, we're all impressed by the great "tradition" that has produced exactly one Stanley Cup winner in the past two-thirds of a century. And find me a major individual award that has been won more times by New York Rangers than Washington Capitals since the latter joined the League and I'll buy you a beer.

If there's a hockey tradition in the Big Apple, it's one of mediocrity and drought. What an honor it must be to root for the Rangers.

I would make a joke about the Maven but its like picking on the slow kid in school.

The guy is a lost cause, does anyone care what he says anymore?

Did I miss something here? Who pretended to invent anything? What is he talking about?

If Stan wants to talk about tradition, how about trading and signing overpriced over the hill talent.

Up until recently it has been a staple of the rags to overpay for talent.

1) Not surprising that Stan forgot to recall that the Rangers tried a uniform change of their own back in the late 70's and went back to their now familiar uni's in the early 80's
2) The 'original 6' Bruins also have tweaked their threads a number of times recently. Do folks still actually read/listen to Stan/take him seriously?

When I was 13 he picked the Rangers to win over the Caps and said he'd eat the column in the Hockey News if the Caps won. When the Caps did, I composed an Ode to Stan Fischler and sent it to the Hockey News. It's classic.
He's still a tool.

So only the Original 6 are allowed to have traditions? How elitist...

This is pretty funny. Usually only my 10 year old niece can exaggerate like that.

8 million jersey changes indeed.

It wasn't Stan who wrote that, it was Ricky Vaughn..I don't know who that is but he's obviously an annoying Rags fan.

Wasn't that Charlie Sheen's character's name in "Major League?"

1) I think it is fantastic that they were able to feature a bone crushing Kevin Hatcher check. It may have been the only one in his time in DC. A more accurate video would have been the puck hopping over his stick at the blue line on the PP.

2) Neil Sheehy: executive producer?

3) I miss the old Patrick division. I'm sure many others feel differently, but I thought fighting your way out of your own division in the playoffs was fun. I'm not sure looking up to the NBA "success story" was a good reason for changing playoff format. But I'm old.
