Russian Center Rumor du Jour

I joked about it the other day, but with the Edmonton Journal reporting that "there's a possibility the Jackets might buy out centre Sergei Fedorov's last year," it really is just a matter of time before you see the "Fedorov to Washington" rumors in full-swing.

Hey, anyone but Yashin, right?

1) Its time for Sergei to retire! Ofcourse he's not alone. We wrote a list of folks we thought should announce they're done.

It goes without saying that I think several of the Fauxes should retire. In fact all of them but, say... one.

Federov is a defensive center at this point in his career. We have enough of those.

At least Sergei could teach the Alexanders something meaningful. He's got winning experience and knows a thing or two about backchecking and playing with intensity at both ends of the ice. I wouldn't give him the moon if he becomes a free agent (not anything close) but the more options that are available for the Caps to potentially fill the top center spot the better.

1) Anonymous: How do you think the folks in Columbus feel about how much of a 'winning experience' he helped bring them?
2) Anaheim certainly seemed to have not been harmed by removing his 'winning experience' from their line up.
3) Detroit doesn't seem to have lost too much either. ( most believe they were the second best team this year)
4) While his stats were respectable, and he's not a defensive liability, he's hardly Selke material either. At 38, its time to say Do svidaniya

Of course: After all this on Russian centers, the Caps will go out and sign some pivot from Paraguay.

Unless you're a netminder, one player doesn't make or break a team.
