A Busy Night Ahead For Verizon Center Custodial Staff?

[On the eve of the Pittsburgh Penguins' final Verizon Center visit of the 2006-07 season, I thought it would be nice to revisit one of the off-ice highlights of the year.]

The Penguins Golden Boy Showered In... Praise?
(Originally published December 13, 2006)

I made mention of them the other day, but have now received an email from a gentleman claiming to be the evil genius behind Monday night's, um... pamphleteering:

As of about three years ago I began paying tribute to the Penguins by offering fans of both teams the ability to urinate on a "star". This year happened to be Sid with a small caption to entice those willing participants to aim more precisely.

I successfully placed these little pee-pics [pictured] in all the urinals at Verizon Center this past Monday night.
FYI, the "small caption" read "I'm Thirsty," and by "all the urinals," he means all the urinals, from the 100's to the 400's. As someone on the Caps message board noted, this would be a great new Versus ad - "Honey, what's Sidney Crosby doing in the urinal?" "Oh, he's just here to remind us that there's a game on Versus."

The "pee-pics" are fast on their way to becoming legend, thanks to tales like this one:

A Pens fan was in one of the upper level restrooms with a plastic bag from the concessions over his hand trying to pick them out of the urinal and still couldn't (while the Caps fans stood back and laughed at him).
Great story, but we all know that a real Pens fan - like this guy - wouldn't have needed the plastic bag.

1) Will be fun to see that tactic used again to 'piss off' their fans.
2) Will be even nicer to see The Donald drop em' with their new policeman, Georgie boy
3) Will be awesome to see the Caps win the dam game!

1. Do you go to watch the game or do you go to watch the fights?
2. What is more important, winning the game or winning the fight?
3. Are you more angered by a game that is lost by five goals or a game that did not have a fight in it?

JP -- if you are doing the press box thing for tomorrow's game, would you mind asking about the fight between Muir and Semin at KCI today?

Thanks!

JP-I read today that Caps are switching back to Red White and Blue next year? is this true? are they going back to the old logo too? It was on Tariks blog

Everything I've heard - from Ted to Tarik - says red, white and blue for next year. No word on the logo yet, but I'd be surprised if they went back to the old one.

As for tomorrow night's game, unfortunately I won't be in the press box, likely not even at the game. More tomorrow on why (oooh! A teaser!).

It's kind of sad when the highlight of the Caps season is a sixth grade joke involving urine and the best player in the league. Caps fan's jealousy once again rears it's ugly head. Every time I've gone to U.S. Air Arena, MCI Center, and Verizon Center to watch the Pens play the Caps (many, many times) the lack of hockey knowledge, respect, and class exhibited by Caps fans is all too prevalent. Kind of like the "Puck Fittsburgh" signs a few years back, I'm sure a lot of twelve-year-olds found that entirely funny. I especially like how Eddie the Eagle finds a Pens fan in the stands offers some good natured ribbing, that's fine, that's funny and all. But then the Caps fans start throwing shit, at a woman, that's classless, that's Washington. As for Brashear fighting Laraque, something tells me Brashear is too old to go with George, last time Donnie danced in circles then hugged George close and tried to sneak a few in while hugging him. But, I guess that's all Donald has left in him, a side show, something to let the Craps fans cheer about for a whole five minutes. Good luck, I'll be there, again, as will about 400 of us Penn State Alums. Your boy Ted needs to put that program back in place that bars Pittsburgh area codes from purchasing tickets, otherwise we'll be the home team again in the Verizon Center, lol!

1) To Caps Nut: We go to see NHL hockey. That encompassed the game and any fights! Do you get up to go to the can/cover your children's eyes when players drop their gloves?
2) Winning is of course always important. However if you're losing, winning a fight at least makes the game a bit more enjoyable!
3) We're more angered with a game where we lose by 5 goals and ALSO don't send a message that we're not giving up. There is no better way to show that than getting physical, "that you may have won this one, but we'll be back!"
