Shatner. I'd Fight William Shatner.

Lest you think I took the advice of the Edmonton Journal's John MacKinnon to shut it down for the summer, I'd actually had a short vacation with limited internet access planned for this past weekend, hence the blowing tumbleweed on this side street of the Internet.

And while I apologize on behalf of the blogosphere for making the mainstream media look bad by using the offseason to discuss more than the most obvious storylines and analyses, JMac (can I call you JMac?) does reference a classic SNL sketch (starring Canadian William Shatner), so I'll throw a snippet of it out here and assure you that full-on puck minutiae will return tomorrow so that all of us losers have something to talk about.

As much as I love Edward Norton, how the hell could he want to mess with Shatner? Shatner would dominate his split-personality ass.

We really are in the 'dead' of summer. I'm so desperate I'm actually reading the emails I get from hockeybuzz. Now before you judge, I've been on that list since the lockout and before 'hockeyFUZZ' was even around. My real quandry is do I get off the list? Or do I keep subscribing so I can occasionally look at morsels like "Khabibulin to Tampa" and marvel at the idiocy.

It has taken me eight years to understand this line, but here is my interpretation: it is a foreshadowing of the Tyler/Narrator split personality. William Shatner, as Capt. Kirk, had to physically fight himself several times on the original Star Trek. 'Fight Club' has a lot of layers, man!:-)
