Thursday Roundup/Gamenight: Caps @ Wild

[ Preview - Preview - Official Gameday Thread]

Hey, the Caps finally get to play again. The WaPo details the (hopefully) rapid ascension of Mike Green to Orr-like status (right now he's at about Pete, hopefully heading in the direction of Bobby) while the WTimes for some reason has a piece on Donald Brashear (or, as I like to call him, Donald Brashear).

Elsewhere 'Round the Rinks:

  • Is it just me or is Radek Bonk just about the worst hockey player you've ever seen?
  • Not a bad score for a dude with Hepatitis.
  • If you knew that entering this season, Chris Osgood had more regular season wins than Dominik Hasek, you probably could have won a few free drinks. Now you'll just have to hope that the cute guy in the corner wants to buy you one.

Daily Awards

  • Hart: Olli Jokinen (2G, 2A, +4 in 6-3 win over defending champs)
  • Ross: Olli Jokinen, Mathieu Schneider (4 points each)
  • Norris: Mathieu Schneider (3 G, A, +3 in 9-2 rout of Phoenix)
  • Vezina: David Aebischer (W, 27 saves on 28 shots against at Philly)
  • Richard: Mathieu Schneider (3G)
  • Calder: Tomas Plekanec (A on game-winner, 75% faceoff win percentage)
  • Aiken: Curtis Joseph (L, 7 goals allowed on 29 shots against in just 40 minutes of action)

1) Bonk may be the current underachiever in the league. Only supplanting Oleg Kvasha due to the latter no longer being in the league

1) BTW, has any other team looked any worse than the Hurricanes in the early going?
2) Sure expectations are now higher than last year, but they've look horrible most of the time.
3) They better get over their Cup hangover' soon, they'll be watching the playoffs on TV this year. The conference will be that competitive!

1) As far as tonights game it should be a good test of the Caps defense.
2) This isn't last year's Wild. they have some decent fire power up front.
3) The Caps best be ready to deal with a team that will come at them in waves, as opposed to the trapping crap from years past

1) It will be a good test, and in a tough building to play as a visitor.
2) The Wild have 10 goals in three games - they're not exactly the 83-84 Oilers.
3) Last year's Wild were the highest-scoring in franchise history. So this kinda is "last year's Wild" with a couple of extra guys who are, admittedly, nice offensive additions for the team.
4) Conjunctions can often replace the need to use numbered lists. FYI.
5) Three straight comments by one poster is a new Rink Record. Congrats. You all should be quite proud.

1) Glad we can help contribute to your blog. Surprised we set such a record, but glad we could help.
2)Thanks for the advice on writing style. We prefer the numbered/bullet format as our readers tell us its a much easier way to follow/understand posts, especially long ones
3) As for the Wild. yes, they haven't yet caught fire, but if you saw their last game, if not for Luongo standing on his head they would have scored a 1/2 dozen or so
