Tampa Claims Pettinger

Per KK, the Lightning have claimed Matt Pettinger off of re-entry waivers.

He'll join Olie Kolzig, Jeff Halpern and Jamie Heward (who was recently sent down) as former Caps in the Bolts organization, leading one to speculate that perhaps they'll place a call to Glen Hanlon once they fire Barry Melrose.

Just kidding.

Sorta.

Good for him. Can't say I think our boys will be intimidated by him....

At least someone picked him up.

Although, am I the only one who thinks that Koules is just picking up other teams' cast-offs?

Koules and Melrose, stop being stupid and build a team the right way please.

Who knew that Matt Pettinger plays defense? Or is he the new Adam Hall/Radim Vrbata?

Looks like the big player wheel at Lightning headquarters landed on "P" this morning because there's no other way to explain this signing.

1) Yeah the Lightning were hurting for a good quality 4th line forward!
2) Again, wondering when the next 'shoe will drop' in Tampa. Right?

Tampa is making horrible decisions. What's the likelihood Koules wants the team to bomb so he can move them?

1) Surprised they didn't pick up Ken Klee as well of waivers to "bolster" their defense. ; )

I hear Stewart Malgunas is next on their wish list

As reported to me by my brother in Tampa: Rumors have the Lightning pursuing contracts with Jason Doig and Stephen Peat in effort to bolster their flagging defense.

@b. orr:

Ha! That's funny. And correct. this move makes zero sense from a hockey perspective.

Can someone refresh my memory, how did Pettinger get tagged with the "Princess" moniker?

I belive Olie yelled "Come on, Princess!" or something like that at Pettinger during a backstage TV interview.

Oren Koules = Dan Snyder: the early years (and middle years, and more recently...). He made a humungous mistake getting rid of Jay Feaster.

i agree with this space for rent, if you're still itching to claim other teams busts why not roll the dice on a defenseman?

they could have picked up Kyle Quincey who would actually benefit their lack-luster blue line, but instead passed and decided the more garbage wingers they had, the better.

edit: sorry it was tyler.
