Saturday Miscellany

Rookie camp opens one week from tomorrow, but for now, it's still "Potpourri for $200, Alex."

Allan Muir wonders if Jose Theodore is a net loss (get it?) between the pipes for the Caps. You know my thoughts on both Muir and Theodore's prospects for success.... It recently occurred to me that Caps' goaltending prospect Braden Holtby is playing for coach/GM Lorne Molleken in Sasktatoon of the WHL. Yes, that Lorne Molleken.... The WTimes makes the bold assertion that Alex Ovechkin is "gonna set NHL records ... well, anything Wayne Gretzky hasn't put out of reach." Which is every one of 'em. Sweet.... Viktor Kozlov has been skating with several Kitties players down in Coral Springs. Hopefully their lack of offense isn't contagious... Dainius Zubrus (remember him?) will wear the number eight this season for the Devils. My guess is that on a scale of one to ten, he regrets not accepting the Caps' last offer about 12.... Sticking with former Caps, NHL.com has a piece on Olie Kolzig and his return to Germany.... Finally, when the Caps and Pens merge, here's what their logo will look like (scroll down). Wait, I wasn't supposed to release that news? Never mind.

But the question is, do the Caps regret Zubrus' decision? Not so much I would think.

Agreed.

Another of GMGM's good shrwed moves...

I hate to say it...I still like Olie. And if that story had been posted just after he had retired this offseason instead of gone to Tampa, we'd all be sucking on him right now.

Lovely visual, but there's no reason to have to "hate to say" that you still like Olie. I do to.

For the foreseeable future, he plays for a rival team, and he left town quite uncerimoniously. But once all that silliness is fully behind us, he will once again - and always - be one of the greatest Caps of all time.

The most interesting tidbit I saw in your links was the reference to Tampa Bay season ticket packages being down more than 1,200 from last year's total. I take back everything I've ever said about the intelligence of Lightning fans.

Tampa blogs are talking about the ticket prices being way up as the reason for the drop off, not the quality of the play. They have some delusions of winning the SE still...

I love how Muir thinks Huet put up those numbers all on his own. No thought given at all that maybe just maybe the Caps young D improved by leaps and bounds as the season went on. As for Jose, with this offense he's going to need a 3.0+ GAA for this team to "struggle" to make the playoffs.

I always thought it was awesome that McPhee clocked Molleken like that.
