You're Making Me Angry, Brian...

From Lighting Strikes: "So much for the idea the Lightning lacked confidence in goaltender Mike Smith. Brian Lawton, the team's vice president of hockey operations said Monday that the No. 1 job 'is Mike's job to lose,' and that the two-year, $4.4-million contract extension was a way 'to instill some confidence in him. ... We wanted to eliminate any doubt where we stand. We are behind him 1,000 percent.'"

I wonder if everyone's cool with that...

  1. What is your obsession/hatred for Olie all about? Unless you've heard something you haven't posted, you don't know what led to the disconnect between Olie and GMGM/Ted. Regardless of last year's performance, #37 was the heart and sole of this team for longer than anyone besided maybe Dale Hunter or Rod Langway.

I'm not condoning his performance or his actions/reactions at the end of the season, but cut him a little bit of slack for what he did for this franchise and city. How quick we all are to forget who carried this team to the franchise's first Stanley Cup final.

  5. Wait, this post isn't about Brian Burke? False advertising, man. :)

    Still, nicely done.

  7. Olie can still be a dominant backup.

  9. Not really at all about Olie, but there is such a big part of me hoping to see the Tampa joke implode.
If it does Olie will be a very angry person. Remember what he did to his stall in DC after a loss.

  10. But I thought Olie said he wasn't going to be a backup...?

  11. thats why i have no reservations in calling him big fat liar, like his big fat head.

  12. In fairness to Olie, I had to photoshop his head over a Bolts player, as they don't have a headshot of him in that beautiful (gag) Tampa sweater yet, so the proportion is slightly off.

Oh, and his skin tone isn't that green naturally either.

  13. JP, you use Olie Kolzig in so many of your little mean "jokes"(?) that you come off looking like a jilted lover. Any truth to that? Do you secretly have a man crush on the guy?

  14. @ Dan, Jr.: Some truth. I absolutely loved the guy and feel betrayed that he'd go play for someone else (especially a rival). I'm bitter. I freely admit it.

But as long as he's playing for someone other than the Caps (again, especially a rival), he's the enemy, so I'll have some fun with it.

  15. I must confess. The last few days I've been seeing all these stories about Brett Favre (particularly the one in today's Post) and thinking, "Wow. He sounds just like Olie Kolzig!"

  16. JP - Before you apply the man crush logic to why I always put down Sidney Crosby, it's not true. No way. I don't care what the restraining order says!

  17. You should have photoshopped a picture of Olie in a TB baseball hat, as that will be the most common picture of him next year.

Olie, meet Pine. Pine, meet Olie.

  18. "Olie, meet Pine. Pine, meet Olie."

    I believe they've already met.
