Saturday Funnies

Two brilliant quotes from a pair of men who have certainly been on the receiving end of our criticisms and mockeries once or twice lead off today's funnies.

First, yesterday, as you know, was Independence Day - the day on which the bands which have connected the NHL and Jaromir Jagr were finally dissolved. I can't say that I'll miss J.J. (make sure to stop by Puck Daddy for a fitting eulogy to #68's NHL career), but have to give him a golf clap for his parting shot:
"And I also want to say to the people like Mike Milbury who made their living by criticizing me all the time, that they can kiss my ass."
It's a good thing I have a real job, or I might be in line to pucker to the posterior.

Our next quote is from Kevin Lowe who, emboldend by P.D.'s praise, is sick of Brian Burke running his mouth:
"Where do I begin? He's a moron, first of all. Secondly, he really believes that any news for the NHL is good news. Thirdly, he loves the limelight and I don't think anyone in hockey will dispute that. Lastly, he's in a pathetic hockey market where they can't get on any page of the newspaper let alone the front page of the sports, so any of this stuff carries on.

He's an underachieving wanna-be in terms of success in the NHL. He won a Stanley Cup? Great. I've won six Stanley Cups, you want to count rings? Who cares, it's just a little pathetic that he carries on."
Throw in Dan Boyle's blasting of the new owners in Tampa and, to a lesser extent George McPhee's frank discussion of the Cristobal Huet fallout and this is officially now the Summer of Claws. I think I speak for all of us when I say I can't wait to see what's next.

Finally, here's a not-so-secret document via Tapeleg - The Book on Jose Theodore:

All of which presumably leads to this:

Hopefully he'll write a new chapter in D.C. that ends a little bit more like this:

My vote is we all give Theodore a chance - yes he's had an up and down career but for that matter so had Huet before he got here. Also Huet played great for 2 1/2 months - that's not a lifetime and Theodore and the Avs went one round deeper into the playoffs this year. It seems like Jose wants to be here and I'm glad of it. That's alot more then I guess we can say for Cristobel and crew - enjoy the great weather in Chi town dude, yes it's 600K more per year and an extra year, my bet is that by the time year 4 rolls around you and your Swiss wife will miss what you could have had and be pretty sick of eating the best pirogies this side of the Atlantic and tube steaks in the world guy. My 2 cents is why not embrace Jose until you have a real reason not too. Can't wait till next season. LETS GO CAPS!!!

This is good stuff! Thanks for the laughs! The only thing I've ever agreed on with Jagr is that Mike Milbury dig...priceless.

The score is actually 1-0, advantage Burke. No one can dispute the Oilers dynasty, but Lowe hasn't exactly recreated it for the new millennium.

In terms of the chirping, I give the advantage to Lowe. Jagr gets -- as you say -- a golf clap for his final jab at the NHL level.

Theo... Yeah.

I wouldn't want Milbury to kiss my ass, and I don't think he's good enough to kiss Jagr's either.

While I agree with what Lowe said in this quote on Burke, a lot of what he said is also true of himself.

Did I just see what I think I saw - Cook to the Pens? I don't like that, I was hoping he would sign out west again. I don't think I look forward to seeing him several times a year.

Dustin Penner; 82GP 23G 24A 47Pts -12

All for the infamous offer sheet of 4+ million a year....

Good one there, Kevin.

You're a tool.

As for the Caps.... so basically we've "gained" Keith Aucoin and lost Matt Cooke. "Settling" never results in success. I hope there's another move or two to be made.

Don't worry JP, as a card carrying member of the Jammer Jagger fan club, we have permanently absolved true Capital fans from any penalty due to Jagr bitching. Lord knows you folks have earned that much.

With all due respect, whoever photo shopped the Theodore photo is just ripping-off this:
