Ovechkin's ESPY...

... goes to Sidney Crosby.

One less reason to waste your time watching when they air the garbage on Sunday night.

I mean, that's just bad. And it reflects so poorly on ESPN and it's fans.

That's seriously just terrible.

hahah what a joke. Although I didn't even know the ESPY's were on last night. It really does show just how out of touch and how much of a joke ESPN is these days

Wait...ESPN isn't just about football or college basketball??? I seem to remember watching something called ESPN 2 Hockey Night when I was young...but i guess it was a dream.

Oh, I wonder if they'll make t-shirts for crosby now that he won something this year.

If Ovechkin wants recognition from ESPN he has 2 options: 1. go on the professional poker tour, or 2. legally change his name to Sidney Crosby.

Just hope this is one red carpet that Ovie decided to miss. Rather he spend his time training in Russia anyway.

Honestly, if I am Sidney Crosby right now I am a little embarassed. Realize this was a fan vote, but I mean he has to know he was not the best player this year. Many do not even think he was the best player on his team this year. Bet Malkin stayed in Russia to train.

What is ESPN? Is that some kind of reality channel?
Come on folks, this is laughable. And isn't the award voted on by the fans? Here's how you ought to look at it; Crosby knows he now has to go on TV and accept this thing, when he clearly wasn't the best player this year. He'll look dumb.

Wow. What a bunch of morons. I'm not one of the Crosby-haters (except when we're playing the Pens), and I think he's a great player. But the best this year?

Someone at ESPN should have said, "Whoa, are we really going to do this?"

I don't know when the voting was done (after 3rd grade recess in May?), but I'd understand it - just a little - if Crosby had carried the Pens to the Cup and won the MVP of the finals.

I think it also shows that ESPN pays lip service to hockey, and I believe that it's because they don't carry any games. It's almost like "if we don't broadcast it, it doesn't count".

The bad thing is that it makes Caps fans hate Crosby even more, this time for something he had nothing to do with!

it was ridiculous that Crosby was even an option in the vote. Oh well.

Does this award include the playoffs in the decision making? If so then the decision becomes more believable for sure. If it is just for the regular season then it does appear to be a terrible decision.

The ESPYs are for the full season (regular and playoffs), but are garbage whether Ovechkin won or not.

How can you take seriously any award show where the five nominees for NHL Player of the Year doesn't even include Henrik Zetterberg?

ESPN... What's that? heck as a small market team the CBJ can't even make it on to VS. How would the even know who ovie is with the hair gone. I have not watched ESPN since they ditched aussie rules football...

im a pens fan tried and true, but when i was at espn for some unknown reason today (i usually read their retractions), i clicked on the espy's link and could not believe crosby got the nod. my first thought was how did ovechkin not win, and if not him, then how did malkin not win over crosby? i understand if they say its regular season and playoffs, but if thats the case then i think zetterberg has to get it.

@ jimmyjazz14: And therein lies the rub - Zetterberg wasn't even one of their five finalists.

Da da da... da da da!

I think I'm happy Ovie didn't win the DSNY. What a fraud network and a really, who even watches the that?

JP - if you could put a pic of Crosby and his ESPY next to that pic of Ovie and the hardware store, that would be rich.

It's worth getting pissed off about but then again...does anyone take ESPN seriously anymore?

The athletes are apparently nominated by people who don't know anything about any sport. Most of the people voting know nothing about hockey and little about any other sport. The voters are mostly people who look to ESPN for their sports coverage, so should we expect any better?

As one of the four best young NHLers, Crosby deserves notice...uh..what? He gets more press than Backstrom and Malkin, and possibly even Ovechkin? Oh, well maybe that's why he won, that and the tendency of neurotic fans from Philly and Pittsburgh to devote all their time to their teams, equating team fortunes to self worth. Congrats ESPN, from now on I'm considering the ESPY the exploding cigar of manufactured television awards.

It remains to be seen who the better player is, but I guess...they factored in the playoffs, maybe? But even then it should probably have been Lidstrom or Zetterberg. I don't know. Even though I'm a Pens fan, I kinda would have given it to Ovechkin. This year at least.

Crosby winning has nothing to do with ESPN sucking (although I don't dispute their suckage) - it's all about the Crosby media hype and the desperate moves by Bettman to drum up excitement, ect.

The fact that Zetterberg wasn't even nominated, now THAT is ESPN suckage.
