A couple of stories from out at K-Plex today, the first being
the signing of right wing Eric Fehr (a one-year, two-way deal worth $735,000) and the second being the introduction of the team's new number one goalie to the local media.
Here's the video on the latter:

Speaking of Jose, a tip of the hat to Mike Vogel for a great mention of Japers' work a couple of days ago. It's 36 minutes into yesterday's Caps Report.
Congrats JP. It's very cool to know that the Caps PR guys are reading your blog and applauding your work!
JP, where did you find the financials on Fehr's deal? I thought that he made 800k last year and that in that range a QO would be 880k?
@ Brian: Thanks for the tip - always nice to get a shout out.
@ DMG: Dollars per Tarik, and it's a good question b/c I thought he was due for more money, too.
You're right that he made 800k last year (per nhlnumbers.com and NHLSCAP.com), with a cap number of around $895k, so he obviously didn't sign his QO. But what did he get for the lower salary? Not a one-way deal. Not a multi-year deal.
I'll try to find an answer.
Speaking of things going on at Kettler. Today's scrimmage was tied at the end of regulation. The white team pulled the goalie with less than 1 minute left and tied it up!
So they went to a shootout!
@ DMG: Per one of the folks on the Caps Message Board:
"...the CBA basically says that the 0, 5, & 10% raises are based upon a one-way contract offer. A player has to meet a bunch criteria for a one-way offer. Play a total of 180 games with 60 in the previous year and so on... If the player does not meet that criteria which Fehr did not, his qualifying offer is a two-way contract based on his minor league salary and thus can be less than his previous NHL salary."
@ KCK: Ugh... the shootout. :) Any nice moves or saves?
I have video! (I know, you're shocked!)
There were a couple of nice shots -- the best was the celebration by the winning goalie, Holtby.
JP, you are the man.
It's good for the Caps - that 110k+ could make the difference between getting under the cap and being just over.
Comment on the Jose video, I like the attitude. Nice to have someone that wants to be here.
Great work JP. I always enjoy it.
That's more than Fehr for him. He'll spend a Fehr part of his career in the AHL - if he stays healthy.
If cuteness is good for anything, I believe that with Theodore and Varlamov the Caps have the goalie positon locked up. Whew!
Hell-o, Joe-Say! Welcome to town. Meet for a drink? My t-t-t-treat.
God he looks so old......
