The look on Alex Ovechkin's face is absolutely awesome.

And the chants of MVP were appropriate too.

Wow, the playoffs. Almost brings a tear to my eye.
Hart, Ross, Richard - Ovechkin
Adams - Boudreau
Not bad.

Amazing! What a badass run.

We've owned ottawa all year, and they're in a downward spiral. The first round looks pretty good to boot~

Hell yes.

I think I cried.

Cried? I think I peed my pants! GO CAPS!

Already looking past the Senators? Bad idea.

Being in the building, with all the red, and all the noise, was fantastic. Crowd seemed tense at times. We're playing with the house money at this point. Unleash The Fury!

My God. I am SO proud of this team. Talk about deserving the playoffs, they worked thier asses off to get where they are today after a seemingly insurmountably bad start!!! CONGRATS CAPS!!! You SO deserve this!!

Tyler said...

The crowd was definitely tense. No one seemed to feel good until 91's goal, then really good with about 90 seconds left.

i'm not sure that "supersweet" adequately conveys how AWESOME this is!!!!!!! now i need the team to hurry up and let us know the dates for the games, since i need to inform my bosses that i have, um, a "family emergency" to attend to.

Did Boston throw their game with Buffalo so that they wouldn't have to face Washington in the first round?

No mention of the 55 injury in TEB's game story (at least not the one on WP.com). Sigh. Grr.

Not at all, hotdog. Just saying it looks good for us. Not that we're automatically in the second round, but that we've done well, so odds are in our favor, statistically, I would think.

Freaking awesome. This has been so much fun! This team is so much fun to watch...what a difference. I mean, even from the '98 finals run, this is sweet. I LOVE THIS TEAM!

PS - For the Feb 8th Carolina Game at VC, a redneck carolina fan (no, they're not all redneck, but this one definitely was) who sat behind me, shouted "Ovechicken" the whole game, talked shit, and annoyed the hell out of me after I flew all the way from Vegas to DC to see this team, KARMA'S A BITCH

Congrats guys.

(You're welcome for taking useless Pettinger off your hands in exchange for Vinny-killing Matt Cooke.)

scott,
Totally agreed. 98 was sweet, but this has already been such a ride, and the real season is about to begin. This team has a resiliency and a sense of determination/destiny/whatever about them that I cannot wait for the playoffs. Who knows how they will respond or how much gas is left in the tank, but this team is capable of beating anyone.

Hopefully our defensive injuries will heal fast. GO CAPS!!!

How much TOI did Emmy end up with? Saw him out there A LOT in the 3rd period, or so it seemed. Seeing #44: not so bad, seeing #44 AND #4 together: kind of scary.

Good for Emmy.

Oh, and Olie looked genuinely thrilled in the postgame scrum, which was nice to see.

so fucking happy.

anyone else see Boudreau get teary eyed ~30 sec into his on-ice interview? he couldn't help it- just started grinning and waving. I'll say it again...if BOUDREAU does not win the Jack Adams then the voters are a joke.

good stuff.

Tyler said...

If Gabby does not win the Jack Adams it means that there are/were other worthy candidates. Claude Julien took a team of nobodies into the playoffs. John Stevens had a substantially new team that was hit with tons of injuries, and they got in. How did Barry Trotz get NSH in? And Brian Campbell could win it in SJS. (Oh, wait...)

i realize there are other good choices, but not sure how any of them can eclipse a coach that comes in with only 3/4 of the season left, and drives an injury plagued young team at the bottom of their conference, to a playoff birth (and one of the better records post-Hanlon in the NHL)

JP said...

Boudreau racked up more points in less than 3/4 of the season than 1/5 of the teams in the League got in the entire season.

He became the first coach ever to take a team from 14th/15th at the midway point to the playoffs.

The Caps spent 50(!) days in dead last in the division and were in dead last in the League after Thanksgiving.

Boudreau deserves the Adams. Period.

Possible One-Timer, from McPhee last night: "I've been telling people that some day we'd wake up and have a good team. I think that morning is tomorrow morning."

This GMGM quote is from Boswell's column in the Post, which, if your chest isn't ALREADY puffed out with pride, will remedy that.

Congrats Caps -- from Uncle Ted (and there's another outstanding quote from him in that Boswell piece) to Big Bo Boudreau, to the players, to everyone. It's been a wild yippee-i-yo ride and there's more to come. By god! Bring 'em all on. WE'LL TAKE 'EM ALL ON!!!

Say, did anyone catch the Three Stars? In my mind there were:
#3-Huet
#2-Feds
#1-Semin

Feds was brilliant but Semin was playing out-of-body. Perfect timing Wabbit Boy!! Love ya! Forget all I said!

JP said...

@ Bowler:

1 - Fedorov
2 - Semin
3 - Huet

Rage said...

What a game. That was the best sporting event I've been to in years.

And I love Ovechkin. That is one kid who just loves to hug people. I thought he was going to smother Huet at the end.

@bowler

damn straight. the wabbit had fangs last night ;)

Well what happens to the Former Cap Factor since the present Caps are in the playoffs?
