i want to watch the game tomorrow with other NYC-based caps fans but i don't know how to rally them. some of them read this blog, right? i don't want to watch the game alone on my couch tomorrow night!
I just have to gloat for a moment, as I called it in an earlier post: goals by Russian Machine Never Break and Russian Little Engine That Could and we WIN THE GAME.
i am also a nyc based caps fan, but i think i to need to watch the game alone tomorrow on my couch. drinking heavily and screaming at the tv does not bode well for sociability.
Beautiful game with no sense of panic by the good guys. Any fans in Orlando/Winter Park FL to watch? We normally watch from home, but will be at the Orlando Ale House http://orlando.citysearch.com/profile/map/2373711/winter_park_fl/orlando_ale_house.html if anybody's interested. Send me a PM if so.
No, I was actually thinking about Pacific Standard in Boerum Hill/Park Slope. It's a little more convenient for all NYCers (it's right by Atlantic Ave on the subway) and it has a great back of the bar with a 60" projection. I'll pass along details once they're confirmed.
Flyers are having a great series considering where they were last year. And their fans are leaving the arena early? and booing? so much for VENGENCE NOW.
Man, i don't care if we lose tomorrow (okay yeah I do), this team is awesome. Bring on pittsburgh. I don't care. I'll take a 4 game sweep by pitt in the second round just to come back in this series.
Upshall dove and then some. It still doesn't cancel out Ovie's, Cooke's from Game 5 (which no one here has commented upon), and Federov's from tonight. While Upshall may have surrendered the moral high ground, don't pretend that it ever belonged to the Caps. We should all agree to stop the tears about the officiating.
I'm obviously hoping for a Flyers win in Game 7 (partly because I'll be there and won't have to hear the absurd commentary on TV down here), but its been a fantastic series.
We outplayed you the first 3 games, snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in Game 1 and then stole a win in Game 4. The Caps have mostly outplayed the Flyers these last 2 games and have deservedly come back.
Game 7 should be one to remember. I'll be the moron upstairs cheering psychotically for the road victory. Whoever wins, lets make sure Crybaby Crosby feels the pain in 2008.
I live in LIC but will be traveling down to the game tomorrow. Definitely interested in meeting more NYC-based Caps fans (I assume most of you are transplants like me) to talk hockey and watch future games.
It still doesn't cancel out Ovie's, Cooke's from Game 5 (which no one here has commented upon), and Federov's from tonight.
Ovechkin and Federov don't dive. Learn to use that word correctly. Cooke, I'm not sure what you're even talking about, but of the three, he'd surprise me the least to embelish anything.
(partly because I'll be there and won't have to hear the absurd commentary on TV down here)
As a subscriber to Center Ice, I have to say this is the dumbest thing I've heard all season. Joe b, specifically, is the most non-bias announcer I've EVER heard.
Also, you won't win many people over by prettying that post up with a "lol we all hate crosby, right?!" comment at the end of it.
I disagree. I think he dropped his stick rather than throwing it. The stick landed right at the feet of the refs, so it was plain as day for him to call, and he didn't see a penalty.
A tough call, but I respectfully disagree. Believe me, I'm happy Huet caught a break, the stick indeed landed at the refs feet...several feet away. Its a gut call for the refs, and thanks to years of Hasek "dropping" his stick, its very tough to call in black or white. Perhaps the penalty shot in game 3 met the Flyers quota for the series.
flyers fan, I actually agree with most of what you say. I have seen Ovechkin embellishing this series (which is what Upshall did) and I'm not happy about it. I didn't see Cooke's or FedOrov's but I can believe they happened. There is a slight difference between going down easy and flailing wildly like you've just been shot, but they are all within the realm of diving. If not for the repeated and flagrant running of Huet, I'd even agree with your moral high ground comment. (Disclaimer: I didn't make that Upshall gif, a friend sent it to me. Don't know the source.)
Officiating is just one of those things. I still think the Caps have gotten the short end of the calls overall, and am still mad about game 4 (because I think it cost them the game). But I can see why a Flyers fan would be equally pissed. That's how you know you're doing a terrible job - both teams hate you. Officiating has been random at best.
As for the comment about Huet's stick, it was close. When I first saw it, I thought Philly should have had a penalty shot. On replay, I think it was the right call. I'm not sure what the black letter rule is, but Huet did not throw his stick at the puck. He let go of it in throwing his body back to his left to make a glove stop. The stick didn't prevent the puck from going in; it wasn't even close. All that said, you can be sure I'd be pissed about it if the roles were reversed, so I understand.
I'm not sure about Joe B., but Locker is definitely a Caps homer. I love him for it, but let's not pretend otherwise.
I think we can all agree on this: the officials should let the players decide this series tonight (at least until the Flyers start running Huet again).
Huet dropped his stick. If he threw it, he'd have actually gotten it where he would've wanted it. That being in place to disrupt the play, not potentially smack a referee in the shins.
I'm not sure about Joe B., but Locker is definitely a Caps homer. I love him for it, but let's not pretend otherwise.
You can tell, if you ever meet them, that they're both caps fans. Laughlin is pretty bold sometimes, and sounds very bias, though he's not nearly as bad as a lot of the color guys around the league. I've heard just about all of them, and it's like day and night. Yeah, he's a caps homer, but he's not that bad, not because I'm a caps fan, but because I'm a hockey fan. Joe b is the most non-bias guy I've ever heard in sports. Period. He's actually pissed me off, MANY times, by being so "Well, I dunno!" about a clear-as-day call just to keep the bias down.

thats what all the Flyers will be dreaming of tonight. can't keep the 8 down forever.
great game by whole team.
fuckin-A right OV is back......we got back home ice - now lets see if we've gained any experience in these playoffs....we'll need some to advance....
It's about damn time!
i want to watch the game tomorrow with other NYC-based caps fans but i don't know how to rally them. some of them read this blog, right? i don't want to watch the game alone on my couch tomorrow night!
I wonder what was being chanted on the Wachovia Center escalators after tonight's dominating performance by Ovie?
I just have to gloat for a moment, as I called it in an earlier post: goals by Russian Machine Never Break and Russian Little Engine That Could and we WIN THE GAME.
YEAH, BABY.
oh, and Philly fans, way to boo your team. You stay classy now.
Is it a contraction? Is it possessive? I get it... it's both! Nicely played.
See y'all at the game tomorrow!
JP, I still owe you a beer from last season. Swing by 104, F, 8/9 if you can to claim your prize.
@Sonia
I'm a NYC caps fan on the UWS who also wants to watch the game tomorrow
real nice game from 8 and 28
what? No philly trolls in here tonight? shocker
How do you say "clutch" in Russian.
BTW, you got to love how discombobulated the OV booing got once he got the game winner.
Perfect time for Ovechkin to show up.
Boo.
NYC Fans:
I'm trying to get people together at a bar very close to Manhattan in Brooklyn (first stop on the N/D and 4th stop on the 4/5).
I'll pass along details as they become available, I'm just waiting to hear back from the bar owner once they reserve the back of the bar for us.
I just want to point out that I used the term "Chechmanek-esque" regarding Biron after game 1
...just sayin.
I also voted to start Kolzig game 4
...forgive me
@Rage -
are you talking about Cody's on Court St?
SO INCREDIBLE!
i am also a nyc based caps fan, but i think i to need to watch the game alone tomorrow on my couch. drinking heavily and screaming at the tv does not bode well for sociability.

I know I haven't been here for a while, but I think tonight I just Ovechgasmed all over the place.
@rananda: don't be silly! that's what i plan on doing, and i think it will be the more the merrier! :)

To any people who question the diving call on Upshall:

I had to imagine it due to lack of video, but give that man an Oscar.
I can't sleep, I am still on an adrenaline high. How in the world do the players come down?
ALRIGHT!
whats that?
is it?
could it be?
Game 7????
Game 7, brought to you by the number 8
Oh yeah. Rock the red.
Obliterate the orange
Flyers are having a great series considering where they were last year. And their fans are leaving the arena early? and booing? so much for VENGENCE NOW.
I'll take bandwagon fans over that any day.
So next year is their slogan "Revengeance NOW!"?

LOVE THESE CAPS!

suprised no one has commented on the non-call on Huet for chuckin' the stick in the third. Thats a legit penalty shot.
I disagree. I think he dropped his stick rather than throwing it. The stick landed right at the feet of the refs, so it was plain as day for him to call, and he didn't see a penalty.
