Game 3 Open Thread

Back where it all began. Oh, and is this guy representative of those oh-so tough Flyers fans? Ooohhh... scary!

Nnnooooooooo! They're going to boo Ovechkin?! I don't want to even think about how fragile he's going to be after that. That will definitely get him off of his game, as it usually does

/sarcasm

I dare them to boo him, I absolutely dare them.

Red Jesus went a whole game without a point. Red Jesus is angry.

Ben is giddy.

WHAT KIND OF POWER PLAY IS THIS?! ARRRRGHHHHH!!! BIRON SEES EVERYTHING! WTF!!!

Jerky. [slaps head]

Jesus. H. Christ.

This really blows.

Brashear to Fehr was nice; one of the few shots they'll have to beat Biron low.

Danielle Briere is on the verge of replacing Lindros as my most-hated Flyer.

Flyers in 5, please. I can't stand this already.

Anonymous said...

Hey, what's that guy doing in front of Huet and the PP? Can hockey teams put players directly in front of the goalie like that?

Anonymous said...

Three guys forechecking on the Flyers first goal. Wide open ice for Philly.

Anonymous said...

Unbelievably weak calls tonight. I saw worse boarding last night in the late games that that call on us. Call on Laich was weak too. So very weak.

Red Rover said...

We are a bunch of cowards. Daniel Briere is running over Huet with confidence. DANIELLE FRIGGIN BRIERE. This is embarassing.

Hey, look, the Canadiens game is on.

Red Rover said...

I am speechless. We played better than this in the dog days with Hanlon.

Anonymous said...

After Eminger takes a Flyer out for the series we can finish the series with Eminger back there.

someone needs to fuck hartnell up. also i hate briere. hate.

Unknown said...

The powerless play in the first period looked like four dots surrounded by five. Absolutely no one was in front of Biron.

If Schultz is out for the next game that means Eminger will be back, but unfortunately that means Erskine will be too.

Briere is so freakin' annoying.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if Kolzig would be getting more respect from the referees than Huet is.

CSN out for y'all?

Comcast/Benedict showing mercy and has broken the feed. Praise them/him.

They look spent....

How many times does Erskine have to be completely skated around by someone before we go...hmmm, maybe he's not cut out for this NHL thing. How many retarded elbowing penalties does he need to take???

Unknown said...

Not worth watching anymore. Caps are useless. What a complete meltdown.

Put Olie in the next game regardless of the outcome. At least there will be a few Flyers with cracked knees when they try to get in his crease.

wittcap79 said...

Seriously though...what are they doing? Do they even play defense anymore? God knows the offense has gone kaput.

Anonymous said...

I don't necessarily think the Caps are stinking up the place here in the 3rd, Philly's simply outplaying them.

I agree re: Erskine. I'd rather have Jason Doig on defense.

Anonymous said...

Dove-ie?

Looking at the replay: Probably.

Doesn't matter much unless the Caps score on this powerplay.

If they do, we'll never hear the end of it.

Anonymous said...

Even as a Caps fan, I can't believe they gave that goal to Shoaoaoaone.

Unknown said...

Funny thing... we seem to score when we get traffic in front of Biron.

Now Huet has to face a PS. Good luck.

Unknown said...

Olie Game 4.

Anonymous said...

Richards' penalty shot: Not my blog; won't pollute the comments with profanity.

Anonymous said...

What a crock of shit that officiating was. Holy shit.

Huet gets a penalty because danielle can't fucking keep his hands off him? Christ. This sport's a fucking joke.

Anonymous said...

It's official as far as I'm concerned - AO is hurt and they're not disclosing it.

Game over. Series is not. GO CAPS!!!

Unknown said...

Despite the final score, the Caps battled back and made it 4-3, even if for only a minute. However, going into this, we knew they needed to get at least one game on the road.

Some positives:
They did light up Biron for 3 (because they got traffic in the crease--hello?)

Timmonen may not be back for game four after his introduction to the cross bar.

As bad as they played tonight they we still in it with about 4 minutes to go.

Tonight is the perfect example of heel heat vs. legit heat. I hate Mike Richards because I'm supposed to (but I respect him a great deal). I hate Daniel Briere because I really hate the guy. SOMEBODY PUNK THAT GUY ON THURSDAY NIGHT.

As for the Caps, if they don't score more goals on the Power Play on Thursday, they'll lose the series on Saturday.

Anonymous said...

Folks, I'm all Caps all the time, but are you guys not seeing what I'm seeing? But for one insane 3rd period last Friday, this series is OVER. Defense has been absolutely horrid. Powerplay looks lost a majority of the time and the goaltending...well you can't hang all this on Huet, but I think we might see Olaf Kolzig before this series is over.

wittcap79 said...

I agree. They have been completely outplayed in every facet of the game. All the games. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP TURNING THE PUCK OVER!!!! I honestly believe we are a more talented hockey team. I also don't think that matters if you allow odd-man rushes @ 5 min intervals. They're playing well, we are not. End of story.

Anonymous said...

Olie has got to go in game 4 Huet has been terrible in all 3 games. We aren't going to win when we give up a min of 4 goals per game.

NS said...

yeah...so...whatever happend to getting people in front of the net..............????????

Anonymous said...

Olie has got to go in game 4 Huet has been terrible in all 3 games.

Call me crazy but I wouldn't call 39 saves on 41 shots with the two goals coming on a breakaway and an odd man rush a terrible game.

Unknown said...

@dmg

I agree. It's not on all Huet, but some of those shots he needs to battle through and win. Olie has playoff experience, and could provide a motivational lift. At this point, they need something, anything.

Anonymous said...

Well, bench Jurcina, let Eminger play. Huet is not the same. Give him a breather. And just shoot the puck! If it hits another Flyer in the balls -- so be it.

Anonymous said...

That, my friends, is what you call a Suspect Defense.

Anonymous said...

Oh, I'm not averse to the idea of playing Kolzig, I just think that with how much the Caps are turning the puck over, how much traffic they're letting the Flyers get and how suspect Erskine and Green have been in their own end it hasn't been Huet's fault all the time.

Huet's generally played well but he looks out of his element right now. Kolzig's been a good playoff goalie in his career, has played well when he's gotten rest and won't put up with as much abuse as Huet does. I think Huet is the better goalie right now but I do think playing Kolzig is at least worth consideration.

Salmon said...

I say bring in Olie for game five if down 3-1. That should help re-spark a Verizon Center that has been dead since Game 1.

Anonymous said...

I know Bruce's Flying Circus plays it loose most of the time, but at the risk of my inner Jim Schoenfeld coming out too much, you don't often see that many horrific turnovers and bonehead plays in one game -- much less by one team in one game. Jurcina's secondary assist. Morrisonn's giveaway that led to the penalty shot. Three-on-twos. Green missing the net on a 3-on-2 shorthanded (the one thing you cannot do), nearly leading to a 4-on-1 the other way...I could go on, but I won't.

I guess the glass-half-full way of looking at things would be to say, hey, Game 2 we couldn't get the puck in an open net, and Game 3 we just gave away, but...

Was anyone else surprised to not see 37 in the net to start the second period?

Anonymous said...

I wasn't surprised to see 38 in net and not 37, but I wanted 37 to START THE GAME. Play huet in round 2 if we manage to make it that far, but this team is ALL ABOUT MOLESTING GOALIES and Huet is just letting them get away with too much. To be fair, so is our defense. SOMEONE needs to make them pay for their repeated rape of huet. It's bad enough it's not getting called, you may as well make them hurt.

has anyone heard any comments by BB about us being pussies??? i was yelling at the TV until i was hoarse at the complete lay-down we were spewing forth. i want to know why briere and hartnell weren't on a stretcher (by a legal hit of course...) - they should get umbergered... - a hit like that could change a whole series - ask sarich and the flames... the fact that bastard briere gets away with what he does and then he slinks in and scores easy-as-shit goals on us just infuriates me. even if we lose the series, if we can liquify that son-bitch i would be happy...

Anonymous said...

I'm seriously upset that BB didn't unleash brashear and Erskine. Erskine is worthless so might as well get him kicked out of the series. This team needs a spark and instead they lay down and die. Even though it's only 2-1, I think we all agree that this series is all but over unless this team seriously turns it around. I think we can kiss it goodbye and until I actually SEE otherwise, I'm thankful for getting this far but upset that we blew a turd.

And don't forget that this whole matchup is the Pens fault because they are too weak (or too damn smart) to take on Philly in round 1. I can't get over how easy Pitt has it. Frankly, the Pens have caused us another first round loss.
