Sasha The Hooker

With last night's first period hooking penalty, Alex Semin drew to within two of the League lead in such infractions. Only Jaromir Jagr, Rick Nash and Sergei Gonchar have more hooking minors, and they have played 20, 18 and 14 more games on the season, respectively, than Semin.

Takes a fucking stupid penalty right after going on the PP. Any other coach would've benched him for at least a game.

as if the numbers aren't bad enough, no happy ending either.

In fairness, with the exception of Jagr, that's not bad company. I'd take each of those guys.

Also - anyone watching the Habs-Rags on NBC? It's testy, and oh man, how many games is Hollweg gonna get?

I agree with anonymous, Semin needs to sit a game or two. I think he's adding nothing to that second line right now...but I guess you could say that about anyone.

Also, is anyone else a little irritated by the fact that NBC will show the rags every Sunday except when they play the Caps?

Anon I,
"at least a game" - I dont think so. A period, maybe, in an extreme case the remainder of the game but anything more than that would be ridiculous. And I don't know about this "any other coach" thing either. I don't get the impression Boudreau is exactly soft on his players when they make stupid plays.

Ogre, I say Hollweg gets 3.

Who cares what NBC does? Are the Caps suddenly a better team if they're on NBC? No. So then why does it matter?

-No, and I don't really care, but it would be nice to have some national exposure. If NBC and the NHL knew what was good for them then they would be pushing this young team, but alas, they aren't

Don't worry, they just gotta get as much national exposure for the Red Wings - Ducks and Red Wings - Stars rivalries!

We know how testy those are.

the real question, for me: IS SEMIN COACHABLE?

Semin's fine. Some penalties he deserves, others he doesn't. "Hooking" in the NHL is practically "holding" in the NFL. It happens *ALL* the time (if you judge what they call an actual penalty. if you ask me, 9 times out of 10 it's not a penalty whatsoever), and it gets called seldomly, though often against us.

I swear to christ there's some stupid anti-semin conspiracy going around. Do most of you guys even watch the games? Comments like these really make me wonder who knows what a real penalty even is.

/facepalm

I wish the NHL had a "falling down" stat. They could give out the Alexander Semin Trophy at the end of the season.

The Holding and Diving penalties called at the same time - that doesn't make sense??

As ridiculous as many hooking penatlies in the NHL are, many of Semin's are well earned. It is a symptom of overall lazy play. My advice, for what it is worth, try to sell him high before word gets out . . . if it hasn't already.
