I hope the Caps stand pat and only make a move if they can get a decent top six forward or depth stay-at-home D man for 2-4th round picks. Since there are likely to be many more buyers than sellers, I think most players who can be had will be had for more than the Caps will want to give up, since it only takes one guy overpaying to drive up the price of a player.

I like the makeup of this organization as is and it doesn't make sense to me to try and spend big time on a rental.

See, there's proof; Jeff Brown CLEARLY put us over the top in 98 to get us to the finals! (NOTICE: please apply sarcasm filter)

On a serious note: Turning Adam Oates into Alex Semin is called retaining asset value!

@dmg: I agree with you. I think a rental veteran D-Man would be worth a second round pick if they can provide some leadership for our young defensive corps. That's really my only concern with the Caps down the stretch. A steadying force on the blue line could be a real asset.

I'd love for them to pick up someone else they feel comfortable with on the back line, because I really think Erskine is a liability back there. He's so slow and has such a lack of agility that most teams have at least 5 forwards that can beat him easily. Yeah, I like his attitude and that he can hit but he seems like he has 2-3 times more game where he's taking back delay of game or hooking penalties or getting beat for good chances than games where he is a dominant physical force.
