Ovechkin An All-Star; Green... Not So Much

The Eastern Conference All-Star roster has been released and, to no one's surprise, Alex Ovechkin has been named to the team for the second time.

Voters were unmoved, however, by the draft Mike Green campaign: Brian Campbell, Sergei Gonchar, Tomas Kaberle, and Kimmo Timonen will share blue line duties with starters Zdeno Chara and Andrei Markov.

Uh, no.

1) Perhaps this will inspire Green to prove them wrong with a continuation of his strong play the past 2 months

Frankly, I'm more irked that Rozsival got snubbed. The guy's been around for a while and is having a career year that arguably is better than that of some of the selections that were made - have a heart and send him to the stinkin' exhibition game, would ya?

And I agree with Faux (gasp!) -maybe this is good for Greenie. Don't want his head getting too big, too fast.

...nor his contract. :)

Excellent point - one less bargaining chip for him to bring to the table.

I agree with you JP about Rozsival. He would have made a better representative for the Rangers than Scott Gomez. Gomez over Malkin, as you’d imagine, made me stomach turn. Malkin has twice as many goals and in my biased opinion, has had a finer season.

Speaking of giving large markets an AS rep, if they really wanted to name a Toronto player it should have been Mats Sundin.

On Green: He doesn’t have arbitration rights so not being named an all-star is not that much of a factor. The Caps know his talent and skill and the player he will be over the next 5 years very well. That, not an honor, is what they’re going to have to pay for. I guess it would be advantageous since he won’t have that card to play but I’m betting he has plenty of ammunition to get a favorable contract for himself.

I just meant it was a feather in the cap that he will have to wait on - whether arbitration eligible or not (obviously he's not), I'd rather be negotiating with an agent whose client is not and All-Star versus one whose 22-year-old client is.

And I couldn't agree more that Sundin deserved the nod over Kaberle, especially as this will be Mats' last winter in Toronto before he's traded to the Pens/Wings/Flyers. :)

Further to that last point, not even Leafs fans think it makes sense.

well... he did go to the Young Stars game last year and then come back and play like crap, so i think it's a blessing in disguise.

The All-Star game is a bunch of crap anyways. DVR the skills comp and watch it later.
