Johnny earned another start Monday.
Potsie's got a bit of a way to go to get all the way back in MY good graces. Still and all, good start.HUGE win, considering the steamroller that awaits tomorrow night. On national tv, no less. (sigh)Boudreau quote of the day (from the print Post): "We're not going to consistently win at the level we want if Alexander Semin isn't scoring. When he succeeds, the rest of the team succeeds."Gabby's next project is Sasha, it appears. I guess ankle rehab is getting a bit stale as an excuse. I'd dearly love to see Semin get last year's magic back. 'Twas wondrous to see.
"[Boudreau] came in during the second intermission and made a great point — we all felt like crap after the [Buffalo] game and we didn't want to feel that way tonight," Steckel said. "We went out there and gave the extra effort." (http://washingtontimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071216/SPORTS04/588366610/1005/SPORTS&template=printart)Nice to hear that they feel as crappy about losses as I do.
Take a look at last night's shift chart - it's clear that Gabby sent the message to Semin both off and on the ice.
Yeah, jp, that's exactly the point that PP makes: "8:24 . . . . That was the least amount of time on ice spent at even strength for a Capital tonight…it belongs to Alexander Semin (yes, even Donald Brashear had more). Part of that is likely that the Caps were protecting a one-goal lead in the third period, but Semin did not skate a shift in the last 10:41 and had only three shifts in the third period. Injury?...or message? We’ll see."(http://peerlessprognosticator.blogspot.com/)
Uh, what was that I said about a netminder giving up two softies and how that damns his team's chances to win. Nevermind....
Johnson allowed two soft goals last night; Kolzig two soft ones the night before (maybe three, but...), so I don't think he necessarily earned himself another start.
I can't believe Kuba only got 4 minutes for that two hand across OV's face! You can bet if that had been Crosby he would have gotten at least a major!
If that had been Crosby, Kuba would have been deported.
Why doesn't Eminger ever get a chance to play?
joe, i wonder the same thing....surely eminger's talent plus potential would be useful to an organ-eye-zation as a top 6 defenseman, right?obviously the decision makers for this team feel differently.since it's been through two coaches something tells me the caps have a rift with eminger that lasts through upper management....maybe he'll get traded at the deadline and have a fresh start at making a career in the NHL.jed and aldo: i love how you talk in "ifs" and i'll leave it at that.
Kuba's hit makes me long for the instigator.
1) Anyone catch former Cap Chris Simon's latest incident? Hard to find an excuse for him here. Sure it was super pest Jarkko Rutuu, but there is NEVER an excuse to b be stomping another player with your skates!2) On our blog we reccomended that the Islanders release him even before the NHL gives its decision as we feel the play was one of selfishness, to say nothing of the stupidity.
