Maybe Kyle "The Snake" Wilson altered his pants himself so as to provide easy access. Or it's a silver/white material that just looks like a cutaway. Either or.
Uniwatch wrote about the slit on the pant leg a while back when writing about Robert Lang. It's simply done for someone (like Lang) who skates very low with long strides. I don't know much about Wilson, but does he fit that description?
Lang does it (unzips his shorts/pads) to give his legs a bit more room. It's apparently super dangerous, something that's become painfully obvious in the wake of Sean Taylor's death.

Those are magnificently bad. As Norm MacDonald famously said, "Happy Birthday, Jesus - hope you like crap!"
Those are horrid. Even worse, does #18 have a slit in his right pant leg?
Following the fashion faux pas that was the Cooperall pant, the Hershey Bears introduce the gaucho to hockey.
