Downie And Out

I figured I'd post the Steve Downie hit on Dean McAmmond from last night, in case you missed it.

Obviously it's a dirty hit for which Downie should be suspended, and understandably McAmmond's teammates are upset. But isn't Sens tough Brian McGrattan's declaration that "he'll get what's coming to him the next time we play them, for sure" a bit too reminiscent of Brad May's infamous "There's definitely a bounty on [Steve Moore's] head... It's going to be fun when we get him"?

Well, they "got" Moore, alright. And the NHL "powers that be" had better watch this one closely going forward.

Anyway, here's the hit:

I think that the intent to injure is so clear that he oughta get 21 games. That would definitely remind NHLers to respect their fellow skaters.

I can't forget how I felt watching that game when Moore was attacked. I thought May's behavior was as bad as Burtuzzi's. And there were others acting up as well. Then Coach Crawford should have paid a price for letting his whole team get out of hand. You can get revenge without playing as dirty as Burtuzzi, Downie, Pronger, etc.

I immediately thought of the similarities to May's comments when I read earlier what McGrattan said. Going to be an interesting situation.

I think Downie should get a long suspension plus someone should take his head of the next time he hits NHL ice. That being said, McGrattan should not have said what he said the way he said it.

I think Downie will have a target on him not just from the Sens, but every other NHL team. Downie is trying to be a pest like Avery, but he is the dirtier, more dangerous(insert intent to injure) player that other players around the league will try to get out of the game.
