Our Front Office Can Beat Up Your Front Office

Thanks to CapsChick for pointing us to this classic clip, prominently featuring a couple of current Caps bigwigs (it's almost inspiring enough that you can look past the Rangers sweaters they're wearing):

By the way, the tale of the tape on that bout? George McPhee - 5.09, 170 lbs; Rick Tocchet - 6.00, 214 lbs.

Ha, Hanlon looks like an ape. Or Homer Simpson in that episode where Bart takes his jar of change and Homer is standing in his underwear on the street screaming. It was an Indiana Jones sequence.

That skinny little squirt who was pummeling Tocchet was McPhee!!??? But I guess I’m not surprised. Didn’t Spunky get suspended or something for slapping around some other team’s GM in the hallway after an exhibition game some time ago? What were the details of that?

Indeed, and it was Chicago's Lorne Molleken. Check out some of the deets here.

Does anyone have the fight GMGM picked with Scott Stevens when he was still with the Caps?

Hanlon was certainly pleased with GM's performance. Maybe that extra cheering from the bench helped him later to land the job as the Cap's bench boss?

That fight reminds me of another scrappy little fighter -- Kevin Kaminski. One of my favorites.

McPhee will always have the benefit of the doubt from me after he actually went down to a locker room with a roster stacked with goons and punched out their coach in the middle of the room for endangering his players.
For that reason alone i will stand by him for the next couple of years to see what he can do with his hands free.
Hopefully Ted has learned his lesson about handcuffing Mcphee.

McPhee is not even 5' 9". The man did fight a lot even though he is frickin' tiny. Talk about no fear.

Makes me wonder if he has an older brother, or got picked on a lot in his youth. Fighting may have been a matter of survival for him since he isn't very big.

Ha! Hanlon's antics on the bench were priceless. Nowadays, I half-suspect he'd have gotten two for that somehow. I'm guessing that was the late 80s?

It's gotta be during the '84-'85 or '85-'86 season - the only two years Hanlon and GMGM were on the Rags and Tocchet on the Flyers.
