Caps Sign Varlamov

There's more than just on-ice business being taken care of out at KCI, I guess, as the Caps have inked Russian netminder Simeon Varlamov to an entry-level contract. Details to follow.

does this mean johnny is out next year? or is this just standard stuff for the future?

Pretty standard - they had until next year to sign him, so this just gets that out of the way. It certainly doesn't mean he'll be in D.C. this coming year (I'd be shocked if he was), or even in North America for that matter.

Per Vogel, the contract has a clause where he can return to Russia if he doesn't make the Caps opening night roster.

And the chances of him making the big club's opening night roster are, to quote the Red Roof Inn commercial, remote.
