New Capitals Uniforms Leaked?

By now you've probably seen these making the rounds, so I might as well post a pic and let you discuss the design.

The story is that they were found in the flash file that was on the Caps front page (right-click and select "back" after following the link). I still say they're decoys - these guys are too web-savvy to screw it up like this. Then again, there are other signs pointing to these being legit. I guess we'll all know soon enough.

Thanks to CapsNut for the pic.

UPDATE: Here's the "cleaned up" version referred to in the comments, with likely-truer colors.

UPDATE: There are hats, too. Convinced yet? Or does the appearance of the hat - a second , independent leak, make the hoax theory seem more likely? Where's Oliver Stone when you need him?

I hope that is a decoy.

Love it. Awesome. Nods to the past, forward-looking.

I feel a little better, now that I've vomited. You always feel better after you throw up, don't you?

Wow, what a mess. First of all, the original Caps logo was awful. Why on earth would one base the new design on that old awfulness?

Second, the Reebokian multi-panel goodness. Blecch. I guess all the NHL teams are stuck with this template, and the league is going to end up with a sort of college-football-ish design uniformity. Ugh.

Third, the stylized font in the logo does not make me feel very optimistic about what the jersey lettering & numbering will look like. I fear that I still won't be able to read the numbers from the upper level. We'll have to wait and see, I guess.

And finally, the shoulder patch-- unnecessary. This whole shoulder patch thing has got to go. Why does every hockey jersey need a shoulder patch nowadays? This hideous jersey would look marginally better without shoulder patches. Marginally.

Hey guys,

I like it a lot.

Anyone worried about the color scheme should be redirected to thise HF thread where a poster cleaned up the colors in the pic...

I'm not sure how I feel about that...

Either it's real or I've been a part of this elaborate hoax too. This design came to me in an Email weeks ago and my first reaction was, nah, this is probably just another mock up. I searched the web and found many varying designs, but not this one. If I had found it online already, I would have posted a link in one of the various message boards discussing this topic. I'm sorry I could not post the image I received because I cannot risk exposing myself or my source.

Wow not much thought was put into this design. It looks like it could have been created in minutes. As netsy said, the old logo was terrible and these are almost as bad.

If it is legit, all I can say is that I'm a bit disappointed. I really like the dome logo and was hoping for more graphics than a spiffied up version of the old lettering. We shall see Friday night -- unless the team somehow relents before then.

Just...ewwww. It's nice that they're tipping their cap to the logo of old, but hell, that was ugly, too.

All I can say is: At least the Caps won't be wearing orange and black!

Bottom line:

Win and no one cares what you're wearing. Lose and no one cares what you're wearing.

No idea if this is the real deal or not, but I kinda like it. Simple, RW&B, a nod to the old while looking new. I'd prefer a modified dome as the shoulder patch, or as netsy said no shoulder at all, but overall it's SO much better than the heinous fake ones we've all seen. No offense to the fans who designed those, but this jersey at least looks like a professional team's.

Eh. It's not terrible or embarassing, like Buffalo's, but it's not exactly inspirational either.

My question is what marketing expert gets paid big bucks to produce something as plain vanilla as this.

I'm with Ari...it's pretty plain jane. I don't really like the eagle on the shoulder, but the front looks alright. I guess I'm just still used to the swooping eagle and what not...I think these could grow on me

Seeing the cleaned-up version for the first time makes me feel better. It grows on me a little more each time I look at it. I do agree it's a bit simplistic and looks like it could have been whipped up in five minutes, so maybe that points to it being a decoy. Who knows.

I'm telling you this is 100% the real deal. I was banned from the caps boards for posting 3 pictures. Here they are.

I found these in the splash screen this morning after another poster filled us in on the glitch.

After I cleaned the puke off of my monitor, I grabbed these screen shots.

Stay classy, Ken.

It looks like a novelty tee-shirt they sell to hipsters at American Eagle. It's no Buffaslug, but it's a little 1971.

And for the record: this Ken thinks they're not the real deal.

Hats are gone from NHL.com. Good thing I downloaded and then uploaded the image. =)

On the NHL's shop page, on the front page, there is a link for draft day hats. When you click on it, there are only 25 hats for sale.

The missing teams are: Capitals, Bruins, Ducks, Sharks, and Senators.

It is known that the Caps will be unveiling their new logo on draft day. Boston is supposed to unveil their new uni's on the 21st. Could these other teams be in the market for logo changes, too?

if this is it, i like it. I don't love it, but I like. VERY happy to see the dome go.

simple is good. even diggin the eagle shoulder patch.

everyone that doesnt want to be criticized by tyler, its simple, just make sure you agree with everything he says

How long did it take them to come up with such an unimagnitive design?

Yuck. Don't like them one bit.

Anonymous said...

i like them alot. the logo is crisp and clean. can't wait to see the real "original colours" of the jersey on friday night.

on icejerseys.com there is 27 draft hats available to see.

Win or lose, I'll still wear the jersey I own now. That thing is god-awful. I hope the Caps see their jersey sales drop.

slowly coming around on the jerseys, but its still a little plain, needs more blue

looks a little retro...

I am not exactly sold that these are the real jerseys yet. Of course we'll know for sure in less than 36 hours.

My impression is that the logo seems too small and there is too much empty space below it. When I first bought the original RWB jersey it was a replica and after seeing an authentic one the logo on it was much bigger. It made me feel, well, less than adequate.

My hope is that if this is the new official uni, that we're looking at a mockup and not the final product. The logo is ok, but not very inspiring and needs to fill more of the front.

I was really hoping for something new and fresh, this is old school and boring.

Take it from a Sabres fan who is still in pain over our uniform debacle, if these images are making their rounds, they're legit. Sorry guys. Blame Reebok. We feel your pain. I liked the Dome for you guys too.

Just saw an article on the WP website : http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/21/AR2007062102100.html

That is the official jersey. And they have a much clearer picture!

While I still think the old/new logo is uninspiring. The new picture shows off the colors much better and the logo does fill out the jersey.

This may be a case of it growing on me. BTW, the shoulder patch is actually pretty cool as it looks like an eagle rising against the silhouette of the Capitol dome.

The report mentions that much effort went in to the legibility of the jersey numbers. Since not all games are in beautiful HD yet, this will be a big plus (no more squinting)!

Awesome! Retro look with new style is great! Anyone who is against this is not a true hockey fan. All teams should go to their original look with the new style
