Japers' Rink Shindig

Thanks to the Rink readers, Caps fans, Caps bloggers, and the Caps for making Saturday's shindig at Clyde's such a success. A few pictures from the party can be seen here.

Thanks also to Scott, owner of Ventnor Sports Cafe in Adams Morgan, for hosting the after party. (Unsolicited [and uncompensated] endorsement: Ventnor's is one of the few area hockey-friendly bars in DC, showing Center Ice games on its numerous flat-screens.) Bloggers from Japers' Rink, On Frozen Blog, DC SportsChick, the Kevin Hatcher Fan Club and James Mirtle all gathered there to watch Toronto raise the hopes of Leafs fans everywhere, only to have them crushed by the Isle on Sunday.

UPDATE: Scott has emailed to say that, beginning next week, Labatt will be on special at Ventnor, in celebration of the NHL playoffs.

My favorite comment of the day may have been from Biff (from KHFC), who said, "Nice to meet you. I expected you to be fat and old."

Yeah, I guess he was surprised at us too. I'm only fat, not old, and the Deuce is old, but not fat. By the way, that's him in the picture.

Didn't realize 2 or 3 Grumpy Caps Fans were there.

I apparently didn't work the room properly.

Kudos JP & Ken. It was a great time.

The one on the front page with the team Russia jersey holding the Ovechkin signed puck.

My favorite quote from the event was from my friend Cassie (there's a shot of her with Chanuk on the flickr album). She apparently knows both he and the DC Sports Chick from something entirely unrelated to the Caps. Her words, "My worlds are colliding here. Not sure if that's a good thing or not." Then again, she said it after her third Bourbon and Coke, so she could have been talking about anything.

See, now you've gone and taken my quote out of context... I'm pretty sure I said I expected all the bloggers I hadn't yet met to be fat and old.

Sometimes I forget how much better Caps bloggers are than everybody else.

Heineken?? What's with Amerikans and their crappy beer? Ugh... Sidney fans have far more refined tastes.

Thank YOU, sir. That was a great party.

What, Iron City Light?

And for the record, I wouldn't drink Heineken if I was dying of thirst. It smells like the Caps' locker room. Sadly, it was the only beer they had in the room we rented, so I went with Jack & Cokes.
