NHL Unveils New Uniform Design

Rink Reader Tim points us to this USA Today article on the NHL's new uniforms. Frankly, other than the cross-eyed model that they chose to, um, model the uniform, I think they look pretty sweet (and the "red and white with stars" on the Eastern Conference matchkit may give some idea as to what the Caps' versions may look like for next season as well). Without question, the lack of vertical striping that was present in previous incarnations of the uniforms is a major improvement.

What do you think?

UPDATE: Tim's really working the new uni links, and found this one:

They're actually not that bad, which doesn't completely surprise me. I didn't think the NHL would be stupid enough to make it so drastic as to drive away fans or drag down jersey sales.

(Hey, is Crosby quitting hockey to become a model? Sounds about right to me...work it, Sidney Crawford!)

Sweet Jesus - look how much these things cost!

Me likey. Hopefully Ted is reading this. :) Not a fan of the jumble of colors under the armpit, but the rest of the uniform looks pretty sharp.

I'd take it, for sure (though I think that logo is in the grave for good).

And that model would actually look good centering our top line, wouldn't he?

That has to be one of the worst uniforms I've ever seen. I certainly won't be buying anything that looks like that.

The only thing baffling me about these uniforms....

Why is that link on the Major League Flip Cup website????

Change the logo to a red/white/blue version of the current dome logo and that will probably more similar to what we'll end up with.

Actually, they are not too bad. The real test comes when each team unveils their design.

I hope not every team abandons the horizontal or angled stripe at the bottom of the sweater. It seems that these new unis are not required to be tucked in which would allow for some horizontal striping.

The pants are sweet. I'm going to buy some and wear them to games with a button down shirt, sorta like people currently wear jerseys with normal pants. It's gonna be killer.

If it looks anything like that, I love it! I would still rather have our eagle logo on the front and put the traditional Capitals logo on the shoulders.

Use a different logo, and I would go for that in a major way (but not for $400). The color combination is great, and I like how it how the new unis can incorprate the bottom band without it being too busy.

First of all, look at an AUTHENTIC numbered 'old' jersey, and it's several hundred, too. The replica is $109... and that price will fall. Not really all that expensive if you ask me. How many people actually wear the authentic jersey, same as the players? Less than 1%, probably.

I like the looks, lose the dome.

My only fear is that the teams will lose their individuality with these things... they are all looking very similar, with the only difference being the color scheme/logo.

I'm just excited that the new uniforms and sticks will glow - just like in the picture!

That whole glowing puck thing was stupid - but glowing players - that's brilliant!

He DOES look cross-eyed. Nice!

Why the shock over the new jerseys? NIKE Bauer already introduced this concept at the Olympics last year!

I think it would look better on a player that is less of a sissy, but that is just me.
