Thursday Roundup/Caps 6 Sens 2

[NHL.com Recap - WashingtonCaps.com Postgame]

Hey all. Last night was a blast, not only watching the Caps trounce Los Senatores, but getting the opportunity to blog the game for Off Wing Opinion. Check it out for all of my in-game and post-game thoughts (still more coming this morning, perhaps). I also wanted to take a second to thank Ellen and Kate, the Off Wing photographers for helping me find my way last night, and also Mike Vogel for his kind words and conversation. I look forward to doing it again sometime soon.

And now, your Caps stat of the day, from the Elias Sports Bureau:
With a 6-2 decision over Ottawa, the Capitals have won four consecutive games and scored at least four goals in each. (The previous wins were 5-2 at Tampa Bay, 4-3 vs. Dallas, and 7-4 vs. Buffalo.) It's the longest such streak for the Caps since they won five straight games in that manner in March 2001.
Daily Awards
  • Southeast Division Player of the Day: Chris Clark (2G, including game-winner, +1)
  • Hart: Chris Kunitz (G, 3A, +2, 4 SOG)
  • Ross: Chris Kunitz (4 points)
  • Norris: Sergei Zubov (GWG, A)
  • Vezina: Marty Turco (25-save shutout win)
  • Richard: Chris Clark, Teemu Selanne (2G each)
  • Calder: Loui Eriksson (A, +1)
  • Aiken: Ray Emery (L, 6 goals allowed on 37 shots against)

As The Peerless points out, zero hits for AO last night. Message received? Anomoly? You decide.

Personally, I thought the dude was flying out there and will chalk the lack of statistically-evidenced physical play up to fluke. But it'll be interesting to watch for in upcoming games.

1) He may not have been credited with a 'hit', but he was NOT shying away from physical play. He did throw a couple of light checks (for him)
2) He looked as good as he has all year last night. Almost completing a couple of high lite reel goals, in addition to his 3 helpers
