Olympic Predictions

No, this is not just a pathetic excuse to use this picture (tip of the cap to Kukla's Korner, btw). OK, yes it is. But while I'm here, I'm going to make my bolder than bold Olympic predictions and they are as follows:

Gold: Sweden

Silver: Czech Republic

Bronze: Canada

Update: Captain Dave has found another picture of this Swedish lass that we are duty-bound to share.

What is interesting is WHY you would predict this. Care to let us in on your thought processes?

How about them apples Golbez!

Sure. The Czechs run the table in Pool A, the Canadians finish second. Sweden wins Pool B and then upsets the Canadians in the semis before beating the Czechs for gold.

Then Henrik Lundqvist gets put on a stamp, and is en route to winning the Calder when he is tragically assassinated by a jealous and deranged Tommy Salo.

Aren't you worried about the Swedish offence with Markus Naslund out and Peter Forsberg either out or less than 100%?

Of course. But I love Lundqvist, Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Alfredsson and Axelsson as a shutdown winger.

Besides, anyone can pick Canada.

How about them apples, cason?

More like "How about them mellons"... cantelopes.... maybe even pineapples fits!

i say Russia takes the gold. Too much offense to ignore and enough depth in net to make a difference.

It's a short tournament so depth in net is irrelevant (besides, what depth? They have Bryzgalov and Sokolov behind Nabby).

I agree that they've got a ton of firepower up front, but as long as you've got Sergei Gonchar on your blueline, you're not winning anything. Ever.

But go, AO! And please don't get hurt...

Trying to convince my nordic wife this is what hockey fans should look like! I second the sweden pick, but that is after a day of watching the events.
