Thursday Roundup/Gamenight: Caps @ Panthers

[Gameday Preview]

With nary a hurricane predicted, the Caps should actually be able to get their game in tonight with the Panthers in Miami. In the local papers, yesterday's Wtimes had an article worth reading on Alex Ovechkin's recent struggles, while the WaPo hit on the same topic yesterday and discusses AO's potential legal woes today.

Elsewhere around the League:
  • Worst trade ever? By now you probably know about the mega-deal between the Bruins and Sharks that sent Joe Thornton to San Jose for Marco Sturm, Wayne Primeau and Brad Stuart. I hate this deal for Boston as it leaves the Bruins without a number one center (Alexei Zhamnov? Please.) and does little to improve their team overall (yes, Stuart's a very good defenseman, but Sturm and Primeau are little more than spare parts). On the other side of the deal, a great move by the Sharks. At the end of the day, it is a trade between two highly disappointing teams but don't be fooled into thinking that this deal has anything to do with hockey. It's about money and Boston's refusal to sign one of the best young centers in the game to a long-term deal. Bob McKenzie calls the trade "pretty unbelievable" and the Toronto Star's analysis of the trade can be found here, but the best (and most extensive coverage) on the deal can be found at Off Wing Opinion.
