It's October And The Leafs Are Falling

The NHL season is barely out of the gate and already the Toronto Maple Leafs have been dealt a potentially crippling blow. Center Mats Sundin suffered a fractured orbital bone in Wednesday night's season-opening shootout loss to arch rival Ottawa. Sundin is out indefinitely, and surgery is not out of the question. Tough break. I'm sure the Battle of Ontario guys will have plenty to say regarding this injury.

The hits keep a-comin' for the Leafs, though, as right wing Jeff O'Neill missed Thursday's practice with a bum shoulder. Luckily for Toronto, they have the durable duo of Eric Lindros and Jason Allison to carry the team for a while.

Update: The AP says Sundin could miss four to six weeks. Not good.
