  2. TSN says there's no news on Rafalski re-signing with NJ and everyone's kind of stunned about that. If he signs somewhere else, that changes the D market....

  3. In the FWIW dept., I'm watching/listening to the TSN.ca feed and their guy in Mtl. (didn't catch the name, the stream was buffering) said that the Habs are interested in Zubrus. He also said that the Briere to Montreal rumors are "rien."

  4. He said that Zubrus-to-MTL would make sense, but he didn't quite say that the Habs were specifically interested in Zubie.

  5. Much obliged for the qualifiers, Tyler. You are quite correct. I didn't mean to overstate Mtl's interest.

    btw it would make sense.

  6. The Rafalski thing stuns me. How is he available? Is NJ's cap situation that bad even without Gomez?!

If GMGM offered Rafalski -- whose family lives in NJ -- 3/$17M, would that get it done? (Probably not, but he'd make sense for the Caps at that number.)

  7. Kukla's: Joe Thornton re-signs in SJ.

  8. Thornton: $7.2M/ thru 2011. Wow. Hometown discount.

  9. BTW, thanks to the NHL/TSN for streaming this window the sized of my thumbnail.

  10. From what everyone is saying, many teams with many offers today for the big names. Difficult to believe we'll hear anything this afternoon.

The sun and 80 degrees and no humidity beckon.

  11. Calgary extended Jarome Iginla 4 yrs at $7 million per yr with a 5th year option.

    ReplyDelete
  12. There's not a single free agent out there this year who's worth more than Thornton or Iginla - yet at least three will probably sign for bigger bucks. Madness.

  13. i cant take this anymore, DO SOMETHING!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. TSN just said Zubie is a "big body with soft hands." Which goes to show that TSN apparently doesn't get the satellite feed of Caps games.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Okay, so I lied. (TSN feed has just 15 minutes left.) Talking about UFA's ranked 15-20, Michel Ouelette mentioned as a good fit for the Caps.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ouellet would be a horrendous fit for the Caps.

Todd White to Atlanta for 4 years/$9.5m. Yawn.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Question for ATL: Why sign a third-line center to a FOUR year deal?

    ReplyDelete
  18. that omelette i just ate has clearly gone to my head.

  19. Panthers sign Brett McLean, Richard Zednik.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Caps sign Poti. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Poti for 1.5 million a year is not bad. He'll definitely help the power play and he'll hit Ovechkin tape more than once a game. It is an OK start.

    ReplyDelete
  22. They're paying him $3.5m per year.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Poti for $1.5: Agreed. Poti for $3.5: Oh dear.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That's the early leader for worst signing of the day. And it's by our team. I'm officially depressed. I mean, that's Hannan money for a Nycholat player.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I though the total contract was for 3.5. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Schneider is a Duck - two-year deal paying him $11.25 million.

    ReplyDelete
  27. this is absolutely terrible, OPEN YOURE F-ING WALLET TED

    ReplyDelete
  28. Um, so far Ted is one of only four owners to "open his wallet," and by some accounts it was to overpay a player. Let things play out a bit before getting so worked up.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Btw, cheers to "Jensen35" - the only one (of our 50+ UFA Pool entries) to nail Schneider to Anaheim.

    ReplyDelete
  30. and for a little more he could have gotten a player that might make a difference. unfortunately i think at this point watching things play out means waiting for all the skilled, impact players to sign elsewhere for a little bit too much(whatever that means), and then pick up the po..i mean trash. please prove me wrong ted, SIGN GOMEZ NOW!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Edmonton signs Dick Tarnstrom and Denis Grebeshkov to one-year contracts

    ReplyDelete
  32. Briere to the Flyers. 8 years, $52MM.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 8 years AND a no trade clause for Briere. The Flyers are insane.

Btw, it seems the open thread has moved to whichever thread is at the top of the page.

  34. Rafalski to Detroit - 5 years, $30m
